Nature and landscaping

Gardens are a small ecosystem in their own right, but part of a larger ecosystem. Changes we make to the land can have a direct impact on this wider ecosystem, even when we do things on a fairly small scale.

With this in mind, it’s really helpful to think about what you do in your garden, how it fits in to the wider area, and whether it could have a positive or negative impact. Here are some examples.

Could introducing a pond add a beneficial source of water for aquatic animals?

If we install fencing, should we consider leaving a pathway for hedgehogs?

Would it be sensible to treat “weeds” with glyphosate, when there are bee hives nearby?

Often there are many choices and alternatives to create the look and feel you want.
